First, some explanation. What I hope this site will be is sort of a cross between a ficfic archive and a recommendations site. Ideally it will contain the best stories from each author, with a link to where the reader can find more. Therefore, authors with large numbers of stories are encouraged to select several of their favorites and submit them, along with a link. Authors with fewer stories or a wide variety of stories, please submit them all if you wish.

There are some standards of quality for this site. You don't have to be Shakespeare, but stories must fit the guidelines below.

What will be accepted?

This is a general idea of what I'm going to be looking for in a fanfic, and in fact what the majority of readers look for.
  • All stories must be based on Power Rangers. Any season is acceptable. Crossovers within or outside of PR are fine. While action/adventure is preferred since that's the kind of show PR is, it's not essential, however all stories should be identifiable as Power Rangers stories beyond just the characters' names.
  • Spelling, grammar, and punctuation must be good. This doesn't mean perfect, it does mean few obvious errors. I reserve the right to correct minor typos and obvious spelling/grammar/punctuation errors. Scenes breaks should be used. Author's notes in the body of the text should not be used.
  • Stories should be of good general quality, which admittedly is subjective. Plots should make a reasonable amount of sense and have few if any glaring holes and inconsistencies. Canon characters should not be extremely OOC (out of character) without a good reason, except in humorous pieces. Stories should be entertaining; if they're plot-driven the plot should be involving; if they're character studies they should have something to say about the characters.
  • Every type including slash and every rating up to and including NC-17 are fine. See the section on NC-17 for more information on what is acceptable for that rating.

What will not be accepted?

  • Content which is offensive in my judgement.
  • Stories about rape, child abuse, violence, or other intense topics which I feel do not treat the subject seriously or appropriately. Any story in this category will be held to a high standard.
  • In general, stories under 1000 words. I'm interested mainly in stories, not drabbles. If you have a collection of very short ficlets, put them together into an anthology. Exceptions will be made if you've managed to do something interesting in a shorter length.
  • Script format fics. Again, if you've done something extraordinary, an exception may be made; but I have to warn you that I've never seen a scriptfic I liked.
  • Songfics in which the lyrics are more than a very small part of the story.
  • Extreme Mary Sues/Gary Stus (except for satire) are discouraged and if posted will carry a warning.
  • Never finished stories. I will take WIPs (works in progress), but only if you expect to finish them.
  • Real person fiction.
  • Stories which need serious editing for spelling, grammar, or punctuation; or which have serious formatting problems such as multiple notes in the text.

NC-17 stories

While these stories may include explicit content, they should still portray recognizable Power Rangers characters behaving in recognizable ways. There are a few further restrictions on this category:
  • No stories which treat rape, torture, humiliation, or sex with minors as erotic.
  • No stories including extreme kinkiness. There's certainly a place for these stories, but it's not here, sorry.
  • Any story dealing with any sexual relationship which is not between consenting adults must treat the subject with respect.
  • Likewise for any story including extreme violence.
  • While PWP's are fine, they still must follow all the requirements above.

If your story is rejected or I ask for changes

Please don't take it as a personal insult. I will give you the reasons why, and we may be able to work together to improve it. One of the purposes of this site is to help PR fanfiction writers to improve, and I'd be happy to give suggestions and do a limited amount of beta reading. But if you're someone who can't accept constructive criticism rationally, don't submit your stories.

Story Display

All stories will be displayed in a standard site-wide format:
  • No special fonts or sizes.
  • Paragraphs separated by a blank line, no indentations.
  • Story title, author, rating, and chapter title for muli-chapter stories at the top, then disclaimers/author's notes, then text.
Scene dividers are up to you.

Submission Format

I will accept submissions in Word, html, or text. Word is preferred. Don't worry about the format of what you submit (as long as it's readable), I'll take care of it.

Submit by email, including the following information:

  • Author's penname
  • Title
  • Brief summary
  • Season (as many as apply)
  • Type: Action, Drama, Humor, Romance, etc. (as many as apply)
  • Rating: G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17
  • Main characters
  • Optionally, the address of your website, your ff.net profile, or whereever you want readers to look for more of your work.
  • An email address to which reviews and feedback from readers will be sent. All messages will be sent from contact forms; your address will not be displayed or exposed to address collecting programs.
Author's notes and a disclaimer should be either in the email text or at the beginning of the story.

Attach your story and send the whole thing to: submissions@rangerfiction.net

PLEASE NOTE: When sending additional chapters to an existing story, please list both your penname and the story title. The admin has a poor memory for names and does not want to have to search the archive to identify you.
